Coral or Jade

Jade Ring
Coral Ring
These are the gifts for a 35th anniversary. This is relevant because on this date 35 years ago, yours truly walked down the aisle and into holy matrimony with Mr. Right. We were kids - I was fresh out of college, and he'd been out about 3 years - young and in love. What a journey it's been! Three houses, three children, four jobs, two retirements, a few trials and tribulations, but mostly love and laughter and wonderful memories. It's a journey I'd do over again in a heartbeat.

Mr. and Mrs.
I'm not expecting any coral or jade jewelry today. I'm not expecting anything at all, actually. Last night we went to see James Taylor in concert in Columbus. That was fun. James Taylor has been one of my favorites for a long, long time - every one of these 35 years and more!

Quilt Camp '14 - Day 5

The grand finale post of quilt camp! We wrapped up the week and deemed it successful. I am so very grateful to Old Town Fabric Shop for allowing the use of their spacious upstairs. What a fantastic venue for sewing non-stop. And to top it off, quilters were afforded a store discount for the week, which, I imagine, resulted in quite a few sales - I know for me it did! *grin*

So let's see what our results look like.

Lyn had been unable to make it to quilt camp all week, but she showed up on Friday with plans for making a baby girl quilt of these bright KF fabrics. Her well organized 5.5" squares will become a quilt sewn straight, but become on point through carefully  thought out cutting. I wish I had the pattern to show you what I'm talking about. I've seen it, and I want to make it, so maybe at some point I will show you.

I haven't been alone in my admiration for Pat's gorgeous quilt. Just about all of us wandered by her work station and did a fair amount of "petting" of fabric and gushing over the pattern. It warrants two looks. In the pictures above, Pat has blocks laid out on the bed in the other upstairs room. I wish I'd been paying attention and gotten a picture of the entire quilt. I am hopeful that Sherrie (her daughter) will snap one for me at some point. I will definitely show it off here if she does. *hint, hint, Sherrie!*

I am so  happy to be able to show you Georgia's Amish With a Twist with its appliqued borders attached. Wouldn't you love to have this thrown across a bed in your house? I know I would!

This quilt belongs to Georgia, too, but it was made prior to quilt camp. It's called Waves, appropriately. She has a house in Sanibel, so I am guessing that this quilt's eventual destination is Florida.

I feel like I am letting you readers down! I don't have any pictures of so many camper's end results! Sheryll, Terry, JoAnn, and my own! I guess this might not be the last we hear of quilt camp 2014. As I am able to secure pictures of these various finishes, I will update accordingly.

Quilt Camp '14 - Day 4

Yours truly was unable to attend Day 4, so the first thing I did when I arrived on Day 5 was to go around and take pictures of where everyone had left off the day before. That is the best I can do for recording the progress.

First, I will show you Georgia's amazing appliqued borders. At week's beginning, she was working on the first border, and now all 4 are nearly done. Looks like leaves need to be added, and then they'll be ready to attach.

Anita's appliques are coming along, too. Here is her most recent addition to the stack.

Our third applique quilter, Linda, is working on the same project as Georgia, and her project wasn't laid out at the time, but she is also doing borders - at about the same stage.

JoAnn's stacks of blocks continues to grow. She is well on her way to making her Kansas Troubles quilt. In case you want to make one of your own, JoAnn is using the pattern from the book below.

Kay has made significant progress on her Lorna Doone quilt by Kaffe Fassett.

Kelly is boasting a finished flimsy with her chevron made of Shimmer fabric from Robert Kaufman. Isn't it striking? Below, she is holding up the backing fabric that will be used. Kelly's mother Cindy will be quilting this for a shop sample, and is already planning to use a fleur de lis design on it.

Pam needed 24 hours to ponder her options on the chevron she created on Wednesday. She came back Thursday removed and repositioned a few blocks, and look what a beauty she has created!

I keep trying to get a picture here to show the true color of her fabric. Because of the lighting and my rookie status as a photo editor, I am still not getting these pictures to show just how calming the blues are in her quilt. However, this shot does show the unique, no-triangle method of creating this chevron design.

Pat has a wonderful pile of stars and bars for her Lincoln quilt. The pattern is by Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilts, and is the same one we Frienzies made for Hettie's daughter Kaitlin last year as a wedding present. Everyone who stops by Pat's table is making over the fabrics, and more than a few of us have gone downstairs to purchase some! I will tell you more about that in a future post. *wink*

Sherrie is whizzing right along with her triangle blocks. In the photo above, she has laid out 4 of them with space left open for the stripes that will soon be added. Below is the pattern, called Hurrah! by Minick and Simpson.

Terry had made progress on Day 4, but at the time didn't have her quilt laid out for a picture. She was "mathing" - trying to figure out sizes for borders. Since I know I will be seeing her again soon, I will definitely be able to share her basket quilt in a future post.

Sheryll came and worked on Day 4, but was absent on Day 5, so again, I have no picture of her purple and white quilt. And, again, I will be with her for sewing in about a week, so I expect that I can get a picture of her finish at some point.

I have tried to be a good recorder of our week, but if any of you girls have been left out, please email pictures and details to me and I will be sure to update.

Quilt Camp '14 - Day 3

What a quiet day! We were working so hard, and a couple of our most regular attendees had to miss for important appointments. It was quiet, but we were getting much accomplished! The pictures here will show you how much we have been getting done.

The two pictures above are Kelly's, the co-owner of Old Town Fabric Shop, where our camp is being held. She used her day off to join us in our sewing fun. The chevron rows above are made with some new fabric that shimmers - see top photo. It's very pretty and would be great for home decorating accents like pillows, throws and wall hangings.

Pam, who stopped in to visit on Day 2, came in on Day 3 with a project - this chevron quilt. She is using the same pattern I used recently on a baby quilt (click here to read about it). I love these blues. Pam isn't sure just how much bigger she is going to go with this. Her current thought is that she will stop and trim it to table runner size.

Another camper made her initial appearance on Day 3 - Linda. She is appliqueing, and is doing the same project as Georgia - Amish With a Twist.

Sheryll's diligence is paying off! Her blocks are coming together! This pattern is called Twilight Hopscotch from Kim Diehl's book Simple Comforts.

And Terry's diligence is paying off, too. She worked so hard on her Thangles triangles, and now has begun piecing the blocks. Here is the first of her gathering baskets.

This is my beautiful red Roman Holiday fabric. I am so thrilled to finally have a project suited to this wonderful line of fabrics. I thought that cutting this piece was worth a picture.

And - at long last - my first block. I spent the entire day cutting and sorting. It was exhausting! Finally, at around 4pm, I began stitching. This block is the result. Then it was time to pack up and call it a day. Ack! I am so ready to begin churning out these Ohio Star blocks. I will need 42 of them.

And, unfortunately, I will not be attending Day 4. I have Historical Society on Thursdays, and I must not miss - we have much to accomplish on that project, so I am giving up a day at camp.

Come back for the wrap up of Day 5.

Quilt Camp '14 - Day 2

We are making progress on our various projects, and having a great time at camp. It just never ceases to amaze me at the friendly, giving, caring nature of quilters. We have new folks joining us; we have visitors stopping by to peek at the goodies, and we have campers helping campers with any number of tasks, tricky or not. By day two of camp, many projects are beginning to take shape, so let's take a look.

When I arrived at Old Town Quilt Shop for camp, I was surprised to see Sharon P's car in the parking lot. Last I knew, she wasn't coming back this week! Well, the desire to add one more row onto her Kaffe quilt brought her back. Here is the expanded version. Looking pretty awesome, for sure.

Here is the reason why Sharon isn't planning to be back this week - darling grandson, Flynn. He made a beeline to the quilt and wrapped himself up in it. What a cute little guy.

Sherrie is looking rather overwhelmed at the endless piles of HSTs she's prepped for her project. I am always so impressed by Sherrie's neat, precise work. Her efforts at it definitely pay off, as rarely do her points miss their mark.

Impressed? Her patience with biases sure pays off! I believe that Sherrie needs to make 6 of these blocks for a patriotic wall hanging. I will try to get a picture of the pattern, and I will also get the name of the fabric line she is using. Minnick and Simpson is what I'm thinking, but which line???

Sherrie's mom Pat is working on a Miss Rosie's Quilts pattern called Lincoln. The more I look at the fabric, the more I think I am going to have to get some. It has the most luscious shades of blue. Stay tuned as I am definitely going to be posting more pictures of this project. And, let me just add, I know where Sherrie gets her tendencies toward perfectionism! Pat's work is meticulous as well!

A couple of women are using their applique machines this week. Above are two pictures of work that Anita is doing. She was having a few troubles with stitches, so I hope she gets to continue. A sample of this quilt is hanging in our work space - so I know how awesome this is going to look when finished.

Here is a totally different applique look. This is part of Georgia's border for her Amish With a Twist quilt.

Georgia showed us her quilt center - Amish With a Twist - made earlier. If I am not mistaken, it was a block of the month offered by Old Town Quilt Shop.

It just so happened that the shop sample of Amish With a Twist was stacked on a bench in our workroom. Here is the corner which shows what Georgia will be doing with her border this week.

This pile of delicious Kaffe fabrics is Kay's. After she put her hand quilting away on day 1, she got busy on cutting these.

The project is Lorna Doone - another Kaffe blue quilt - which is no surprise coming from Kay. She's crazy for Kaffe blues.

JoAnn is still working on her green mountains. She keeps buying more green. I should not be one to talk about quilters buying fabric, but I remember a time not so long ago when JoAnn was practically the queen of "use what you have." *grin*

After all the tedious work from Monday, Sheryll's purple and white quilt is taking shape. This quilt will be a wedding present for her daughter's friend, and has a September finish date. I have no doubt that Sheryll will make her deadline - she is a very productive quilter, as evidenced by all that I show here on the blog from our Frankfort girls posts.

And speaking of Frankfort girls, Terry is making this Gathering Baskets quilt. What a lot of triangles! She and Sherrie ought to see who has more.

Terry opted for ease and time-saving in her effort to complete this quilt - Thangles! Here are the stack of triangles ready for the next step.

I don't have a picture of my second pastel 9-patch, but I did get it done during the morning of day 2. In the afternoon, I was rewarded with digging (finally) into my stash of Roman Holiday fabric. I've had this fat quarter pack since the line was released by Moda - what - 10 years ago? However long it's been, I determined that one of my goals for this year was to use this fabric.

And here is the pattern I am using it on - Eventide. I think I am going to like it, but I am prepared for a lot of cutting and sorting. I will try to be patient. Really. I will.

That wraps up day 2! I will bring you day 3 tomorrow!

Happy Quilting, Friends!
